Thank you for considering South River Seamstress for your sewing needs. I am Marsha Mathias. I've been sewing since I was about 7 years old. My mother taught me to sew on my grandmother's Singer treadle sewing machine. I spent many hours sewing doll and Barbie clothes. Eventually, we upgraded to a new electric sewing machine.
I have owned about 5 sewing machines over the years, none quite as special as my grandmother's that I learned on. I still have that machine, and it is proudly displayed in my workshop now.
My love of sewing started with doll clothes and has grown steadily over the years. I have met so many amazing people through sewing, and I have had the pleasure of working on many different things.
Of course, I have hemmed, altered, and repaired so many clothes. I have also designed and sewn many clothes, garments, and costumes.
In 2017 my son volunteered make all of the costumes for his class's production of The Hobbit. It was so much work, but so fun! Sewing costumes for church productions has been very rewarding, as well.
Although sewing has essentially always been part of my life, I have been sewing professionally for about 20 years.
I love helping brides and bridal parties get a perfect fit and have enjoyed working on all styles of wedding gowns and formal dresses.
In 2024 my husband and I bought a small farm on South River Road in Vesuvius. After finishing up our home and lots of necessary projects on the farm I decided to expand my sewing business and ordered a small building to turn into my sewing workshop. Having this new workspace allows me to have a dedicated space for several sewing machines, serger, cutting table, fitting mannequin, ironing station, and easier access to all the necessary notions.
